The EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference is a forum that brings together meteorologists, scientists and researchers from around the world to share their experience and knowledge during plenary, poster and workshop sessions. In 2015, the conference will focus on advances in nowcasting and short-range numerical weather prediction (“limited area modelling”) and preparation for new geostationary satellites.
Real-time observations of geostationary satellites are currently used directly for nowcasting and forecasting rapidly developing high impact weather over the next few hours. These very short range forecasts are one key input to the warnings released by National Meteorological Services which help save lives and reduce economic losses.
As expectations for timely and accurate warnings will further grow in our weather-sensitive society, the Conference will discuss the new perspectives offered by the combination of innovative very high resolution numerical models and more frequent, comprehensive and accurate observations from a new generation of geostationary satellites.
