• Context for the Technical Training

The MAGIC project is being implemented by a consortium of Regional Education & research networks (RENs) and National R&E networks (NRENs) around the world from 20 countries and regions, including the Caribbean.

The consortium was established to collaborate and share the advanced technology and software that will allow research mobility, real-time communications, share applications,  social management, education and other knowledge-sharing resources, developed by academic institutions and NRENs globally, to be available and shared by countries and regions, such as in the Caribbean, Africa, Central and South America.

MAGIC has
–Developed and adaptated training material  for Identity Federation and eduroam deployment, supporting local language requirements as necessary
–Implemented online training of Identity Federation and eduroam in an e-learning platform (NREN or project partner)
–Conducted Identity Federation and eduroam training Workshop for Regional research and Education Networks
–Developed and provided in class training (boot camp) to constitute Identity Management professionals in the region.
–Implemented the project scope to design the best Federation  architecture to be implemented per territory

Training Objectives:
-to introduce the collaborative tools and platforms - eduroam, Federated Identity and eduGAIN
-to train the institutions’ technology representatives in the requisite tools and skills to support collaboration
-to Plan for eduroam in Caribbean
-to consider Beyond eduroam  eduGAIN

Expected Outcomes:
-a cadre of trained technical representatives of institutions that can support the collaboration efforts and initiatives of their science communities
-Trainees will have the knowledge and expertise to setup the eduroam service and understand all the necessary components and technologies in use, in addition to the collaborative services that are available to implement for its institution.
-Institutions will have the opportunity to get the eduroam service implemented in their campus, and to lead the path for a top level service for their country. Furthermore, the institutions will be able to have a set of collaboration tools to offer for their researchers and communities.
